Gas prices are soaring and it does not look like it is going to stop anytime soon, but that should not stop you from having an enjoyable summer. West Bloomfield Township would like to recommend changes that you can make to your daily travel routines and alternative summer vacation activities to make your wallet heavier once again.
If you live close to your daily destinations consider walking or riding a bike on the miles of pathways. It completely cuts gas costs and is a healthy alternative. Rather than driving solo try carpooling. The more people you carpool with the less you spend on gas.
Smart Bus is a bus system that travels throughout Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties providing several services, all at an affordable rate. If busing does not meet your needs consider purchasing a hybrid car. The cost may seem expensive but you instantly save money at the gas pump and receive tax breaks from the government.
You can also cut gas spending by taking summer trips closer to home. There are many fun activities that can be made with only one tank of gas! Rather than heading up north or to other states take a trip within Metro Detroit.
Go visit and cheer on the famous Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. There you can ride on the carousal and the ferris wheel, enjoy ballpark food, and learn about the Tiger’s history. You can also experience the outdoors by visiting one of Michigan’s parks or take a tour on the Detroit River and see Detroit’s historic landmarks by a tour boat.
The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is another great activity and it has been recently remodeled. The DIA’s collection is one of largest in the United States. Conveniently located near by is the Detroit Zoo, which is home to 270 species from around the world, some of which are endangered. The Henry Ford Museum is also a great destination that is filled with the United States history and consists of several other attractions.
