The West Bloomfield Police Department is one of the finest police departments in the state and provides 24 hour service to the residents of our community. The mission of the police department is to ‘Serve and Protect’ all of our citizens as well as those who visit or work in our beautiful township. The police department works proactively with residents, homeowners associations, student groups, worship communities, businesses, and schools to keep them safe and reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. But when crime does occur, the police department works diligently to apprehend that criminal element that tries to take advantage of our citizens and exploit the freedoms we enjoy.
Under the command of Police Chief Ronald D. Cronin, a staff of 79 sworn officers, one part time parking enforcement officer, 15 full and part time dispatchers, 7 cadets, three records personnel, two secretaries, one property officer, two mechanics, and two building maintenance personnel carry out the responsibilities of the department.
Our Patrol Division provides road patrol services and handles all initial investigations. They also have a well trained staff of officers that work as evidence technicians to identify and collect evidence. We have two canine (K-9) handlers with three dogs that specialize in, among other things, drug and explosive detection. In addition our officers have obtained advanced skills as defensive tactics instructors, mountain bicyclists, accident investigators, driving range instructors and technicians, firearms instructors, photographers, Field Training Officers (FTOs), first aid and CPR instructors.
